1. Introduction

Dividend Insight LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Dividend Insight platform at app.dividendinsight.com and the website at www.dividendinsight.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • First and last name
  • Password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never store your plaintext password)
  • Google account ID (if you sign in with Google)

2.2 Portfolio Data

When you use the platform, you may provide:

  • Stock symbols and share quantities
  • Purchase dates and prices
  • Portfolio names, goals, and tax treatment preferences
  • Tax rate settings

2.3 Brokerage Connection Data (via Plaid)

If you choose to connect a brokerage account, we use Plaid Inc. to securely link your account. When you connect through Plaid:

  • Your brokerage login credentials are entered directly into Plaid's secure interface — we never see or store them
  • Plaid provides us with your investment holdings (stock symbols, quantities, and cost basis)
  • We store a Plaid access token, encrypted at the application level using AES-128 encryption, to maintain the connection
  • We do not access or store your bank account numbers, routing numbers, transaction history, or personal identity information from Plaid

Plaid's use of your data is governed by Plaid's Privacy Policy.

2.4 Payment Information

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number or payment details. We only store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

2.5 Usage Data

We collect anonymous usage analytics via Google Analytics 4, including pages visited, session duration, and device type. We use Cloudflare for DNS and CDN, which may process IP addresses.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the Dividend Insight platform
  • Display your portfolio holdings, dividend income, and performance metrics
  • Sync your brokerage holdings (if you connect an account)
  • Process subscription payments
  • Send transactional emails (password resets, account notifications)
  • Improve the platform based on aggregate usage patterns

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or financial data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • All data is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database with encryption at rest
  • All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
  • Plaid access tokens are encrypted at the application level before storage
  • Internal services are accessible only through a zero-trust network (Twingate)
  • Production server access is restricted to SSH key authentication only
  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plaintext

5. Data Sharing

We share data only with the following third-party services, solely to operate the platform:

  • Plaid — brokerage account connections (investment holdings data)
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Google Analytics — anonymous usage analytics
  • Cloudflare — DNS, CDN, and DDoS protection
  • Vercel — frontend hosting
  • DigitalOcean — backend infrastructure and database hosting
  • Resend — transactional email delivery

We do not sell your data to any third party.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Your account data is retained as long as your account is active
  • You can delete individual portfolios, holdings, or positions at any time — deletions are immediate and permanent
  • When you disconnect a brokerage account, you can choose to keep the portfolio data (converted to manual) or delete it entirely. The Plaid access token is revoked and the encrypted token is deleted from our database
  • If you delete your account, all associated data (portfolios, holdings, positions, brokerage connections, and preferences) is permanently removed

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — all your portfolio and account data is visible within the app
  • Export your data — use the CSV export feature to download your portfolio data
  • Delete your data — delete portfolios, disconnect brokerages, or delete your entire account
  • Revoke brokerage access — disconnect any linked brokerage account at any time

8. Cookies

We use a minimal set of cookies: a session token (JWT) for authentication stored in localStorage, and cookies set by Google Analytics for usage analytics. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

9. Children's Privacy

Dividend Insight is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
